17th June 2019

In English this week we have be recapping traditional tales and fairy tales. We have thought about all of the key features including the beginning, setting, good and bad characters and props used. We have acted out the story Jack and the Beanstalk and started to plan our own version by changing some of the key elements- for example changing the character, magic beans or who is met at the top of the beanstalk. The children will be writing their own version of the story next week. Alongside this we have been recapping on how to use apostrophes for possession. Here’s a great video to watch https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/articles/zx9ydxs

The children thought about which props belong the which character and then even mixed them up. For example… The wolf’s fluffy tail. The three bears’ porridge. Jack’s magic beans.

In maths the children have been thinking about measuring using cm and m. They have been comparing lengths using < > and = and thinking about practical ways we use measuring in everyday life. We found out that Mo Farrah can run 100 meters in under 10 seconds so we predicted then challenged ourselves to see how far we could run in the same amount of time. Distance varied from 37 meters to 52 meters! Can you work out the difference between those two numbers? Can you use these symbols <, > or =?

In science we have been thinking about grouping animals based on what they eat. We learnt about carnivores, omnivores and herbivores and used a Venn diagram to group them.

are also really excited about our new class pets. Each classroom has some caterpillars. Over the last week they have grown enormously in size! In the next few days they will start to turn into a chrysalis- we are all very excited to watch these changes happening!

Mrs Ellis measures a pencil that is 14 cm long. She then measures a stick which is 27 cm long. Which is longer? What’s the difference in length between the pencil and the stick?

Don’t forget to write it in into the Home Learning book and bring it in to show us!

This weeks words are…
