English

This week in English we have continued to look at and create our own made up animals! The children have not only been describing them using adjectives and similes this week but also thinking about where they live, how they move and what they sound like. The children will be writing a character description of their animal as part of their independent writing this week.

Maths

In Mrs Ellis’s maths this week we have been looking at money. We have recapped the different coins and notes and have bee doing lots of activities including…

  • matching coins to the amounts
  • playing shops
  • creating an amount using different coins
  • playing shops
  • counting in multiplies of 2, 5 and 10

As part of your home learning it would be great if your children could play with real money. Can they make 37p using a range of different coins? You could also ask them worded questions such as…If I go the shop with 50p and spend 26p, how much change will I get? What coins could I get? OR If I buy a pencil for 35p and a rubber for 19p, how much will it cost altogether? What coins could I use to pay for this?

In Mrs Prophet’s maths they have been using a range of resources such as Numicon and base ten to add single digits to a 2 digit number. As part of their home learning it would be great to get them to ‘count on’ in their heads. For example- put the number 18 in your head and count on 5. What number do you get to?

Science

In science this week children will be learning about the food chain. What would happen if one animal from the food chain became extinct?

Saying Goodbye

Next week we say goodbye to Mrs Desborough. She has really enjoyed her time here at Garrick Green and we will really miss her! She is moving on to continue her teaching training in a year 5 class. We wish her the best of luck and look forward to her return in the summer term.
