This week in English we have continued to learn about the 8 planets in our solar system and looked at different example of fact files. The children have been busy creating their own fact files with some very fascinating facts!

In Mrs Ellis’s class we have continued to think about multiplication. This week we have been learning about arrays. Arrays are things we put into columns and rows. Columns go up and down and rows go side to side. This makes it easier to count.

We have also learnt that multiplication is commutative. This means that when you multiply two numbers you will get the same answer if you swap them around. For example 2×5=10 and 5×2=10 (see example above). When we use arrays we can easily see.

Here is a great game children can play at home- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10 Select level 2, Multiplication, Mixed tables x2, 5, 10.

In Mrs Prophet’s class children have continued to look at money. There are some great games you can play online such as https://www.topmarks.co.uk/money/coins-game

Mrs Prophet has also been sending home some work to support at home.

In Science we looked at the work of Charles Macintosh and explored how the properties of materials can be changed. We used wax candles to draw on paper and then painted over the top. We found that the wax resisted the paint to reveal our pictures.

In whole class guided reading we have been reading the book The Smeds and the Smoos by Julia Donaldson. Children have been working in pairs to complete different challenges.
